The Boosted Mini X is a small but mighty electric skateboard that is excellent for short commutes, quick errands, and cruising on campuses.
Created by the highly reputable brand Boosted, the Boosted Mini X It is a great choice for those who are looking to invest in a powerful, top quality electric skateboard.
Boosted is generally known for its electric longboards but the Mini X is a far more compact and portable board that is not as expensive as their other boards, but still possesses all the qualities of an up-market electric skateboard.

Overall we really enjoy the Boosted Mini X’s ride. We did find it comfortable to ride around for short commutes and for cruising, and found its ability to travel over cracks and uneven surfaces to be moderate.
It is definitely designed for urban riding, and due to its size wouldn’t be ideal for off roading.
For short journeys the Mini X does the trick, but if you plan on taking longer trips we would recommend a larger electric skateboard.
The most noticeable thing about the Boosted Mini X, is that for its size it is quite heavy. Weighing 16.8 lbs, it is definitely one of the heavier short electric skateboards around.
Sure this isn’t the most convenient, but we personally didn’t mind the extra weight as it’s packing a seriously powerful motor!
The board is 29.5 inches long, shorter around 7 inches shorter than a longboard and more the size of a regular skateboard.
You can store it comfortably in overhead storage on trains and buses, or under your desk at work or school if you are always on the move.
The Boosted Mini X is made with a poplar hardwood core, instead of carbon or bamboo which is common in other electric skateboards.
The hardwood helps reduce vibration significantly and makes for a smoother ride. The foam inserts fitted in the deck also work to help dampen vibration without increasing the weight and flexibility. It also assists in absorbing shock from bumps on the road.
The poplar wood core is placed between layers of fiberglass, which increases the strength of the board and allows it to be ridden by riders of all sizes.
The fiberglass also increases the flexibility of the Mini X, and gives it an extra spring for a more comfortable ride.
Wheels and Trucks
The board is fitted with 80mm lunar wheels which give good grip and absorb bumps pretty well. Upon riding it numerous times, I found that they held up very well riding on rough urban streets and didn’t show signs of wearing down.
The trucks are aluminium and 190mm wide, and I found them to be fairly flexible which allowed for easier carving. If speed is more your thing, you can just tighten the trucks up a little.
The only thing we would say is that the board is built quite rigidly, that the flex on the board isn’t as much as others. Flex helps you to keep balanced on your board whilst you travel over bumps, and stops you from being thrown off.
The Boosted Mini X is definitely built with high quality parts designed for performance and longevity. You will definitely appreciate how reinforced all the parts are that fit together. that is ideal in a great electric skateboard.
Boosted opted for a unique deep-dish concave shape for the Mini X. This style keeps your feet locked in position and gives you total control over your ride.
It is durable yet lightweight and we found that it easily executes smooth movements through a variety of different terrains.
The kicktail of the Mini X is designed to enable you to turn with ease, a crucial attribute when pivoting or engaging in some quick maneuvering.
The deck is slightly wider than Boosted’s other models, so newbie riders will enjoy a more stable platform to balance on.
It also sports an edge guard at the bottom rims that prevent the board from resting directly on the ground.
The aesthetic appeal of the Boosted Mini X also sets it apart from other models on the market. It has a uniform, sleek black/space grey color scheme that is attractive and striking.
Boosted have created an app to be used with their electric skateboards that allow you to control the speed and power.
With the App, you can also view your range based on the mode, rider settings, and battery level.
It has got some other fun features such as allowing you to share your Boosted Boards mileage and compare them with other riders as you track your ride wherever there is internet coverage.
The Boosted App requires iOS 10.0 and is compatible with the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.
The ergonomic remote control of the Boosted Mini X uses cutting-edge firmware to give you a simple, intuitive, and reliable experience.
The remote’s pistol design fit comfortably in my hand and was easy to hold it steadily without dropping. The remote is fitted with a thumb slider and a forefinger button.
Pulling the trigger down controls the motor, speeding up or slowing down the board as you please.
Another cool feature is Boosted’s patented ‘jerk filter.’ The filter works to moderate the changes of riding modes so as you switch from beginner to eco to expert mode it increases the speed gradually. It also works to smooth braking and acceleration, for a less jarring feeling.
Depending on your expertise and skill as a rider, you can maneuver between three different acceleration modes. These modes are beginner, eco and expert which cap the speed at increasing speeds to let you customize your ride.
There is also a battery life indicator on the remote control to show power usage (and charge status when plugged in). The 5 dot indicator serves to give the rider plenty of notice for the board’s battery mode.
Whilst other e-skateboard remotes can lag and disconnect, the Boosted remote is extremely responsive and I found that the skateboard responds straight away to the remote’s commands.
The only thing I didn’t like is that the remote charges with a mini USB port.
Speed and Range
The Boosted Mini X offers top speeds of 18 mph to 20 mph without sacrificing stability, given its small size. It also has a really impressive range of up to 14 miles per charge!
It is smoother and faster than ever, whether in Beginner mode, Eco mode, or expert mode, and you won't run out of juice.
In beginner mode you can travel at speeds of up to 11 mph, eco at speeds of up to 16 mph and expert gives the fastest acceleration and speeds of up to 20 mph.
If you are a pro rider using only the expert mode, you are guaranteed around 7 miles of range whilst traveling at a top speed of 20 mph.
Battery and Motor
The Boosted Mini X has opted for dual 500W belt motors which are extremely powerful. The choice of belt motors give the board more power than hub motors and packs more acceleration.
The Mini X is fitted with an extended range lithium ion battery.
The battery is located underneath the deck, which I found slightly hindered the flex of the board compared to Boosted longboards.
I also loved how quick it is to charge the Mini X. In only 1 hour and 45 minutes the battery was fully charged!
The battery inside the Mini X is touted to last for a really long time (around 1000 charge cycles). If you need, you are able to purchase a spare battery and replacement is really easy - all you need is an allen key and around 10-15 minutes to do the swap!
The Mini X can take on hills that are as steep as a 20% gradient, with ease. You just need to lean forward when going uphill, then take off with a higher starting speed to climb effortlessly.
The regenerative braking system that comes with the board works to boost the batteries when going downhill and as well braking to give your battery a little more juice.
When going down hill all we would say is take it with caution especially if you are a beginner and ease the throttle a little. Definitely practise going downhill on smaller hills before tackling the big ones!
Comparing the Boosted Mini X to the Boosted Mini S
Boosted also produces a Mini S model, a budget electric skateboard that is great at climbing hills with super stopping powers.
The Mini X, on the other hand, is an upgraded version with similar features but is more compact, faster, and better at climbing hills.
Whereas the Mini X has 14 miles of range and a top speed of 20 mph, the Mini S offers 7 miles of range and a top speed of 18 mph. The Mini S, has a less powerful motor and therefore weighs less than the Mini X at 15 pounds.
Also, the Mini S has less battery power and less acceleration, speed and range. Visually they look very similar, but the Mini X has grey colored wheels whereas the Mini S comes with bright orange wheels.
You can also take the Mini S on a commercial flight because it uses a Li-ion battery, unlike the Mini X, because of the type of cell embedded in the Mini X’s battery.
Taking a look at the price, the Mini S is around $250 cheaper than the Mini X.
We found the Mini S to not be as comfortable for long rides on rough terrains, unlike the Mini X model which is built for a slightly more extended range.
The Mini S is also a perfect choice for smaller riders who need a less cumbersome electric skateboard for their daily commute.
Unfortunately, if you are looking to purchase a Mini S you may struggle a bit. After Boosted’s woes the Mini S is no longer available for purchase on the main retailers - however if you are still interested you can try eBay, Craigslist or other reseller sites.
Overall the Mini X is definitely the preferable and higher quality Boosted Mini board choice, and opting for the X will give you a higher performance electric skateboard.
So Who is the Boosted Mini X Made for?
Boosted went out and crafted the Mini X to be a conveniently sized yet powerful electric skateboard. It has all the power of the Boosted Stealth whilst being able to be portable. It is the ideal electric skateboard for the commuter who lives the urban city/transport lifestyle as it can come with you on the subway and take up little to no space.
They are really popular for this in cities like New York City and San Francisco.
You will also see these EVERYWHERE around beach areas too. You would be pressed not to see a rider riding a Boosted Mini X along the Venice/Santa Monica beach front
The Boosted Mini X electric skateboard is a great electric skateboard for commuters and generally just for having fun without the need to purchase a large and bulky electric skateboard.
The durable and top quality deck and the redesigned wheels along with Boosted’s exceptional engineering can culminated in this high performance electric skateboard that can be used by riders of all levels.
Whilst it has a high price tag, the Boosted Mini X will not let you down and I recommend this board as one of the best around!
